Comprehension is why we all read.  In kindergarten we are learning how to read, but as the year progresses your child will be reading by himself/herself.  Ask your child questions before and after reading to help him/her develop comprehension skills from the start.

The questions below are a good starting point

  • What do you think this story will be about?
  • What was your favorite part of the story?
  • What did you like about this book?
  • Does this book remind you of any other stories you have read?
  • Did you recognize any sight words from school?
